TNB Langkawi

TNB Langkawi refers to Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s electricity-supply and grid infrastructure supporting Pulau Langkawi, Kedah, rather than a conventional property development. The key project is the 26.5 km, 132kV submarine power cable connecting Kuala Perlis Transmission Main Intake (PMU) to Teluk Apau PMU in Langkawi, which began construction in July 2018 and was commissioned in 2020 as Langkawi’s third high-voltage submarine cable to the National Grid. The project was designed to improve the island’s electricity capacity, stability, reliability and efficiency, supporting Langkawi’s growing residential, commercial and tourism demand. TNB subsequently identified the upgrading of the 132kV submarine cable system as a strategic project to further increase power reliability and capacity for Langkawi, demonstrating the island’s continuing importance to the wider electricity network. Overall, the TNB Langkawi project is a critical energy infrastructure investment, providing a more resilient connection between mainland Peninsular Malaysia and Langkawi and supporting the island’s long-term economic and tourism growth.
